Burry Port Contest

Saturday 6h October saw the second round of the South Welsh League brass band contest season with the West Wales Brass Band Association contest held at Burry Port.

The BTM Band under the direction of Jason Katsikaris took the honours in the Championship Section but they were pushed hard by the newly crowned Second Section Champion Band of Great Britain, Newbridge (Celynen).

Newbridge Principal Cornet player Andrew Smith took the prize for the best instrumentalist. Adjudication

The same two bands finished exactly in the same position at the Ebbw Vale contest early in the year and the final contest at Treorchy in November will decide the Champion Band of South Wales.

Adjudicator Jim Davies was very impressed with the standard of the bands in the top section and was in no doubt with the first three placings.

1. BTM (J. Katsikaris) - 197pts
2. Newbridge (Celynen) (P. Holland) - 196pts
3. Burry Port (M. Thorne) - 194pts
4. Tylorstown (G. Davies) - 190pts
5. Abergavenny (T. Williams) - 189pts
6. Mid Rhondda (A. Gibbs) - 188pts
