National Finals 2006
Gothic Dances
Adjudication 1
1. Excellent timp Euph, a little loud, nice style. Good percussion. "A" Fanfare, why start to rush in lower band? Nice change 35. Notes a little pecked for me. Fine close, not all finished together.
2. Poor entry but you settle down. "A" Basses p only, better entry at "B". Balance detracts. "D" Well done basses. "E" Little more marcato. "F" Give music space, don't rush. Some nice sounds. Well done troms. Think we could relax more, don't try too hard. Well done.
3.Very good style, well controlled. "A" Little fast. 19 You can play it fast but it doesn't give you time to play with style.. Good change at 56. "G" Fine attempt into allegro molto again it's a little frantic but you play all the notes. Fine finish to a performance if it could have been much more controlled it would have enhanced this performance. Thank You.

Adjudication 2
1. Timp good. Euph p ?? good all the same. Good playing, some rushing is evident especially in lower band. "E" is held back whereas "F" pushed on. Some big stuff into "H" and some interesting touches in the last section.
2. Blend not 100% for me in opening quartet. 3rd Cornets at "A"? - where? Bass sound tends to out balance inner band the cresc/dim was over done for me. More marcato at "E". A lot of good playing but a bit fast for me at "F" - indeed, although it's still played. It needs to be a bit more natural sounding.
3. Good opening, excellent cornets and yes a crescendo into 12. FF at "A" in lower band. This fairly whooshes off - it's all a bit frantic for me. Well played none the less. "G" is very effective but I can't get past how quickly you are playing the allegro. Bar 123 catches a few out, could be the fff or a bit more to close.
To be honest, this band sounded as if you could play the music easily but the desire to prove it was detrimental - a pity.
